2021 SPRING TENNIS SIGN-UPs- Tryouts will begin on Saturday April 17, 2021 at the GBHS tennis courts. Time: Noon-2 PM. Team practices Monday through Friday 3:30-5:30. Please sign up for the team at Family ID. Physical must be dated on or after June 1, 2020. Every athlete must sign up, even if you signed up for the Fall Session.

The Spring Season Interscholastic Tennis Team format will be: 2 boys singles, 2 girls singles, 2 boys doubles, 2 girls doubles, and 1 mixed doubles. An athlete may only play in ONE of the preceding. The best two out three sets format will be used (no ad scoring and third set 10 point tiebreak). Exhibition doubles and singles matches will also be played when courts open up. This year the regular season will be against other Northern County teams with a Region Tournament to follow.

Coaches: Our tennis team is coached by Head Coach Aavo Tomkov, Senior Assistant Coach Shirley Wais and Assistant Coach Matthew Bugenhagen. Coach Aavo is certified by the US Professional Tennis Association to teach tennis and coached the McLean HS VA team to a state championship in 2017 (the first in its school history).

We'd like to remember Bob Hough, a former GBHS Tennis Team athlete, who passed away unexpectedly at the young age of 46. Hough was a 1992 graduate of GBHS and an influential former high school sports reporter at the Capital and Maryland Gazette newspapers for 25 years. Here's a link to more information:
