Glen Burnie High School
The Gophers traveled across town to visit the Arundel wildcats on Tuesday afternoon and found themselves in good position early as Braeden Cavey capitalized and finished a loose ball in the air into the back of the net to put the Gophers up 1 nil early. But minutes later in an Arundel attack, Goalkeeper Justin Bradley (Glen Burnie) was 1v1 with an Arundel attacker. Bradley initially stops the attack but is called for a foul on the play and issued a yellow card.
Arundel followed with a positive set piece that knotted the game at 1 a piece.
The half waged on seeing both teams trade attacks and chances but Arundel struck again before the half leaving the Gophers only down 2-1 at the half.
The second half saw a resurgence as “The Boys” battled back to level the playing field when Abdellah Mansour saw his shot from 35 yards out and took it. Arundel’s sprawling keeper had no chance as the ball was placed near post and to far from his reach as the ball rippled the back of the net. Once again, “The Boys” were in the match. As time was ticking away an Arundel attack found a weakness in the Gophers defense which was costly as the Wildcats went up 3-2. A final push saw the gophers get caught in transition as the Wildcats counter- attack proved to much for the outnumbered defense tallying a 4th goal and leaving the Gophers outscored 4-2.
The Gophers host the Broadneck Bruins on Thursday at the fabled “Pop Whayland Soccer Stadium” at 6 pm.
