It’s MAY and we are ready to recognize our Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of APRIL. We need your help. Below you will find information on several of our SPRING Athletes at Glen Burnie High School. Please read through them and decide which athlete you feel deserves to win the “APRIL Student-Athlete of the Month” award at GBHS. The winning athlete will receive an embroidered Under Armour Backpack and recognition on our upcoming “Athlete of the Month” board going up in the gym. Here are your APRIL candidates:
Victory Ho- GLAX Attack
Victory is a Junior on girls lacrosse. She plays attack and is always making sure to hustle up and down the field. If her teammates need her to run the midfield for them, she does so without hesitation. Victory is always aggressive and makes sure to re-defend the ball.Victory also demonstrates great sportsmanship by being on time and helping out with any job needing to be done. Victory has 2 honors classes and 1 AP class while holding a 2.7 GPA and is also involved with Vocal Ensemble. “Victory is involved in so many aspects of the school and therefore defines what it means to be a STUDENT-Athlete.” stated Coach Null.
Jackson Hall- BLAX Midfielder
Jackson is the only freshmen on the Varsity Lacrosse team but with his play, you would never know. More often than not, Jackson is the smallest player on the field but he doesn’t let that slow him down as Jackson has played three different position this season for the team. He has played midfield, long stick midfield and is our faceoff leader. Jackson has a knack for picking up loose balls and leads in the team in groundballs with 61 this season. In the month of April, Jackson has scored 5 goals and has recorded 3 assists. He also has the second highest shooting percentage on the team with a 50% conversion rate.
Not only is Jackson excelling on the playing field but he is excelling in the classroom. As a freshmen Jackson is taking 11 classes this spring and is enrolled in an AP class, he took his first AP class in the first semester. With the exception of his required BMAH classes and Fitness for Life Jackson is taking all honors and AP classes. “Just like he hasn’t let his size slow him down on the playing field he hasn’t let his tough course load slow him down either as he has a 4.42 GPA.” stated Coach Deitchman
Katie Gouty- Softball
Katie Gouty is batting .625 in the month of April with three homeruns and 23 RBIs. Katie has also recorded three doubles and one triple. She was a leader when the softball team went to work out with the Special Olympics Softball Team. This is her sophomore season and has started almost every game for the Lady Gophers since the beginning of her freshman year. “Katie carries a high GPA and is well-respected by her teammates and coaches.” said Coach Sauble.
Aaron Watson- Outdoor Track, Long Jump/Triple Jump/Sprinter
Aaron has continued his consistent performance from the Indoor Season in all of his events. His consistent performance has earned the team 15-20 individual points at every meet this month. He is currently ranked in the top 10 long jumpers in 4A in the state. He’s also anchor leg (last) in the 4×200 that set a new PR at this weekend’s Gator invite and is now currently ranked 3rd in the region. Aaron has set a goal to reach the state championship in three events. This has helped his teammates as they are also stepping up to the plate. Aaron takes every practice seriously and finishes every run like he is competing not just against himself but against a field of competitors. “Very recently, Aaron has taken on a leadership role on our team, and he is challenging other kids to push just as hard as has pushed himself.” stated Coach Kelso.
